David Nguyen
Research Scientist, Stanford Digital Economy Lab, Stanford HAI
I work where AI, measurement and economics meet. My research asks how we can measure what AI is worth, including the welfare people get from generative AI that GDP misses, and how AI is changing which tasks get done and by whom.
I also use AI as a measurement tool, for example by augmenting survey data with large language models in economic research. Much of this builds on GDP-B, a framework for measuring the benefits of the digital economy that I work on with Erik Brynjolfsson.
I am also a Research Affiliate at the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence. Before Stanford I was an economist at the OECD and NIESR. I hold a PhD from the London School of Economics.
